Detective Bureau/ Investigations Unit

RUPD officers investigate complaints filed by community members and pursue investigations to their most reasonable conclusion.  Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division may conduct follow-up investigations, with support when necessary from a number of law enforcement partners, including the New Jersey State Police, Essex County Prosecutors Office, Newark Police, federal agencies, and victim-witness programs.  The interest of the victim is always the primary concern.  The RUPD recognizes the importance of confidentiality and of protecting the identity of the victim in the course of an investigation.  In criminal matters, the victim's preferences greatly influence the way in which a case is processed.

The University has a number of alternatives at its disposal to adjudicate inappropriate behavior, whether or not it is of a criminal nature.  In addition to pursuing cases through the courts, the University uses a internal judicial structure to decide on specific issues unique to University Life.  Furthermore, cooperation between the University life.  Furthermore, cooperation between the University and other law enforcement agencies can result in a student's receiving disciplinary action for off-campus behavior.

Lost and Found

If you have lost property, come to the RUPD at 200 University Avenue or call 973-353-1819 to see if it has been turned in.  The RUPD serves as the central collection point for lost and found items, such as keys, backpacks, eyeglasses and bikes.  The lost and found is open between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
